Chicago arrived late to the coliseum and their equipment truck was even later….They had been held up at the Canadian border on their way to Ft. Wayne. I was at the backstage gate when they arrived hoping to see them up close. Their road manager Hank found out I was in my own band and he needed help once the equipment truck arrived so he ask me if I could help out.
I jumped at the opportunity and what happened next was pure magic. Once the stage was set I was invited to join the band in their dressing room and hang out with Terry Kath. The was given signatures of the whole band, I still have them today. I was invited to sit and watch the concert on the side of the stage. It was amazing.
After the concert I helped load up the truck and Hank told me anytime I would attend another concert with them to just go back stage and ask for him. I did that for 3 more concerts in the following years and again hung out with the band. Magical moments.
I attended that show. Long wait, but worht it. Do you recall who filled the time while we waited? He was an energetic solo acoustic gituarist with the energy of Steve Goodman. Could it have been?
