I remember this show vividly. I was a big Poco fan and had bought a ticket primarily to see them. They did put on a great show, and closed with a version of “Georgia, Bind My Ties” off their “Head Over Heels” album that absolutely smoked the album version. Eric Clapton proved his worth as a headliner though. He came out onto the darkened stage, and tore into the opening riff of “Layla” as a single spot light hit him. The arena erupted. It was sublime. He went on to perform a set of mostly numbers from Cream, explaining that it was the ten year anniversary of their founding. A great show, and one I will never forget.
I’m glad you have such a great memory of the show, Jeff. I don’t have specific memories but I know it was my first concert. I was not familiar with Poco and became a big fan after that show.
