I was Union Board Concerts Director at the time of this JT show. Fortunately, the show sold out within a few hours after tickets went on sale. As a result, we decided to get a few hundred posters printed with a “SOLD-OUT” banner so we could then sell them at local ticket outlets such as Disc Jockey Records in College Mall to help raise money for future Union Board student activities. The day of the show, Dave Lucas from Sunshine Promotions told me that JT’s agent Bobby Brooks, who had flown in for the show, wanted to talk with me about these posters. Bobby said that the crew had noticed them for sale locally, and that none of them could remember approving the sale of these posters. After I told Dave and Bobby that we had only sold a few hundred of them for $5 each to raise money for Union Board, they were fortunately able to calm the waters with JT’s management. They just asked that we seek out permission in advance when doing things like this in the future! I always think about this whenever I look at that poster! It also saddens me to think about the fact that eight years later, in 1990, Bobby Brooks died in a helicopter crash while flying with Stevie Ray Vaughan and others. Bobby was only 26 years old during his 1982 visit to Bloomington for the JT concert, and only 34 at the time of his death in 1990! R.I.P, Bobby Brooks!
