The place must had a low ceiling at the time…when I went to see my friend’s band (kashmir Chicago’s Led Zeppelin Show) play there recently for the first time ever, ( June 14th 2025) their low ceiling was removed…nevertheless the show was great

I was there standing next to the stage, 2 months before drafted and going to Viet Nam. Lived in Michigan City IN about 50 miles North.

That’s some serious history there! Lucky you!

I was at the 8:15 show, my first concert. Was a Yardbirds fan and knew all their names, but had no idea who the bass player was…it wasn’t Paul Samwell-Smith. It wasn’t until the first Led Zep album that I saw it was a fellow named Jimmy Page. Managed to crawl behind the amps after the gig and snatch a pair of drumsticks. A few years ago I learned a good friend of mine saw The Beatles at the Chicago Amphitheater the same day. A dynamite era.

Boy! you were quite the fan when you did that! I was too young at the time when this happened and I first didn’t go until I was older and came with my family but I went on rides and even rode on the schaffer queen riverboat at the time we went

Does anyone remember the Yardbirds playing at the LaPorte Armory on January 22, 1966? I think they were originally scheduled to play in Valparaiso but for some reason it was cancelled and the venue moved to LaPorte. I was playing in one of the warm up bands at the concert and for a 15 year old kid, the experience was musically mind altering. Keith Relf and Jeff Beck were awesome.

You forgot to mention, that Jimmy page was also in the yardbirds on bass at the time…(long before they broke up, and then Jimmy reformed it as Led Zeppelin)
